A brief description of why AIDS Project Worcester hosts the National Black AIDS Awareness Day annually, and why this event is held on February 7th nationally:
1. To raise awareness and highlight the disproportionate impact of HIV in the Black communities
2. To increase access to HIV education, prevention, testing and treatment.
3. To mobilize community involvement and to combat HIV.
4. Recommit to sharpen efforts to focus on research.
5. Highlight the progress made from then (40 years ago) and now.
6. Consider challenges around prevention of HIV transmission among Black people
7. To promote prevention, screening, testing, and treatment for individuals living with HIV and for those at risk for HIV
There will be a guest speaker on the topic, a poem cited and written a person living with HIV, and several performances, resources, networking, light music, raffles and a meal will be provided during the event.
