On Friday, February 13, we’re hosting a screening of the short film, Unexpected at Umoja, followed by a real, honest community conversation. We’ll be talking about relationships, boundaries, sexual health, stigma, and HIV prevention — all the stuff we don’t always get space to talk about out loud.
HIV testing will be available for anyone who wants it, along with resources, condoms, and grab & go food. No pressure at all Come how you are.

About Unexpected
‘Unexpected’ tells the story of two activists and heroes, Masonia Traylor and Ciarra Ci Ci Covin as they create an underground network of women helping women cope with and survive an HIV diagnosis in the rural South. A story of hope, perseverance, and the power of a shared connection. ‘Unexpected’ highlights a critical issue facing women all over the country: HIV and explores why Black women are disproportionately affected by the disease.
