Black HIV Researchers Directory logo

The Black HIV Researchers Directory is a newly launched online resource where Black researchers can elevate their visibility, expertise, and desire to serve Black communities, while Black-led community organizations can easily connect with researchers to bolster their work. The Directory offers an easy and streamlined way for anyone in need of the expertise, knowledge, and cutting-edge research that can push our collective work forward and end the HIV epidemic for Black people.

The Directory is free to use and only requires a few minutes for researchers to sign up, create a profile, and get connected. The Directory offers users multiple pathways for connection and collaboration – Black researchers can connect with other Black researchers and Black-led community organizations can find researchers that align with their interests and needs. Additionally, researchers with varying backgrounds and experience can achieve visibility that can be challenging to gain with more organic opportunities.

Biography

Cristian Chandler, PhD is a social and behavioral health scientist. His research interests are focused on social justice, health equity and disease prevention among sexual and gender minorities, particularly in communities of color. He has a special interest in community-engaged research and biobehavioral HIV prevention. Previous research studies have included Black men who have sex with men (MSM) and Black transgender women (BTW) using several theories (e.g., Syndemic Theory, Minority Stress Theory, Intersectionality) and their impact on HIV prevention and care outcomes. Currently, his work involves intersectional stigma development and methods to better understand intervention groups within Black sexual minority men (such as men engaged in sex work), understanding the HIV prevention needs of Black transgender women using gender affirmation theory (e.g., HIV testing, pre-exposure prophylaxis [PrEP] modality preferences), and preparation for long-acting injectable PrEP among Black sexual minority men and Black transwomen in the southeastern United States.
